Requirements: Older than 18, enthusiasm, ability to teach English to low income kids and young people in public schools. No Spanish language requirement.

Mindo

Mindo photo

Mindo is a great place to visit for many reasons. The nature is the greatest attraction for most tourists. The enormous biodiversity is known all over the world. The area around the town has the highest diversity of birdspecies in the world.

For those looking for a bit more action than birdwatching, some adventure travel activities have been developed by the community. Consider going tubing on the wild river or abseiling down into deep cliffs.

The waterfalls near Mindo are a popular attraction too. Hike through the cloudforest to get there and jump into the waterfalls for some refreshment.

Mindo is one of the first community based tourism projects of Ecuador.The community has received several awards for their great efforts topreserve nature in the area. As part of their work they we able toprotect a large area of highly diverse forest from being cut down byfarmers. Mindo is one of the success stories for community based tourism which has inspired others in the region to follow.
