Misahualli
Misahualli is a fun place to visit in the middle of the rainforest. It has a great location, not too far away from Tena and easy to reach from Quito.
Don't expect any primary rainforest when you set out for a trip to this little village. Deforestation due to illegal logging and agricultural activities in the area have made this impossible.
However, there is still a lot of wildlife in the area and people live fairly traditional.
There are a few cool things to do in the town itself. The square has been taken over by little monkeys, not afraid of people and always enjoying any food they can get their little paws on. They are a lot of fun to waste some time with.
Misahualli also has a nice butterfly farm. You can find it not too far away from the plaza.
For those looking for a jungle party, a discoteca opened up across theriver. Local folks and volunteers from nearby projects usually go thereduring the weekend to get their groove on.
If you are looking for real jungle, you can take a tourwith one of the local travel agencies. Before you book, make sure theguides are licensed and seem experienced. You will get a lot more foryour money.
