Puerto Lopez is a nice little fishing town, which has attracted the attention of many tourists. The fish market and bay area make it an important regional commercial area for fishers along the coastline. You can see all the fishermen go out to catch fish in the morning, or wake up a little later and see them come and sell their catch.

Tourism organisations in Puerto Lopez is are in luck, it isn't only a fun fishing village to enjoy fresh fish and a pleasant coast, you can also find the beautiful Machallila national park in the area.

Isla La Plata is the most famous part of the park. The little island has earned the nickname 'poor man's Galapagos'. The natural diversity on the island gives you a simple peak at the beauty of the real Galapagos Islands.

Other parts of Machalilla are underestimated. The long and white sandy beach of Los Frailes is worth a visit. You can enjoy the beach or walk around the area and go birdwatching.

The last section of the park is on the mainland too. It is the dryforest in which the community Agua Blanca is located.
