Manta is an important city for Ecuador's economy. As one of the largest cities at the coast it is a hub for goods coming from the US to Quito.

For tourists, Manta is not the favorite place to go. The beaches don't usually live up to the expectations of many visitors, just like the city itself.

If you are up for a party, Manta is a good place to go. There is a good club-scene and there are some nice place to eat too. This is partly thanks to the US army base not too far away from Manta. Expect a lot of American soldiers in Manta.

If you are not up for a big party and just looking for a nice place at the beach you might as well skip Manta and go to some of the smaller places just north of the city. You won't miss a thing.
