Bosque de Paz - Ecuador

Bosque de Paz is a long term project in Nature Restoration, initiatedand managed by Piet Sabbe and Olda Peralta. In 1995 they bought a smallproperty, a piece of land depleted of topsoil on a steep slope in the northernAndes of Ecuador. After many years of continuous planting they transformed thisdegraded land into a beautiful and healthy island of green, producing anabundance of tropical fruit. Piet and Olda firmly believe in the restorationand conservation of nature. A beliefderived from the conviction that plants and trees are essential for life, foodsecurity and the preservation of the fabric of the community. Mankind needs to recognize that in the nextfew decades, not only do existing natural ecosystems and forests need to beprotected, but also that restoration of already degraded areas must take place. If not, desertification will continue to spread, reducing even further theamount of viable agricultural land and water sources, which will inevitablylead to violent conflicts over the ownership of fertile land and water. Theapplied restoration principle, called 'forest farming', is a long-term processthat requires a lot of energy and resources. Therefore, your assistance isgreatly appreciated. Your time at Bosque de Paz will be an enjoyable and unforgettable experience.
