Banos has been popular with travellers for decades. It's a place where any visitor can find something fun to do.

This little town is filled with fun activities. For those into adventure travel there is rafting, hiking, climbing and mountainbiking.

There are some beautiful hikes into the mountains surrounding Banos. You will go through gorgeous landscapes and little villages. The panoramic views of the valley alone are worth the walk up the mountains.

For those looking for a party, Banos is the place to be. Especially during the holidays Banos is a happening place with clubs and bars filled with young Ecuadoreans and foreigners looking to dance, drink and have a good time.



If you like to take it a bit easier, you can enjoy the hotsprings whichmade Banos such a famous destination in the first place. There arethree to choose from in Banos and the surrounding area. The ones in thetown itself are usually very crowded.

Over the past decade Banos has also become the home of volcanowatchers. Tungurahua has been very active for years and people comefrom near and far to look at the enormous mountain. Tours go out fromBanos to have a closer look at the dangerous mountain.

Places to stay and eat

Banos is one of the most popular places to visit in the entire country. There are almost as many hotels as there are buildings. So don't worry about finding a place to stay. Prices are very competitive and hotels usually offer good service. Just walk around town to find the one that you like best.

During holidays Banos becomes very busy. Keep this in mind when you are looking for accommodation (prices go up by 100% and most places will be booked full).

There is also an abundance of restaurants in Banos. Anything from Italian or Mexican to basic Ecuadorean meals are available.

How to get there

Banos is very easy to get to. From Quito take one of the many direct busses to Banos, Puyo or Macas to get to Banos. Otherwise take a bus to Riobamba or Ambato and change busses there.

From Cuenca and other places south, catch a bus to Riobamba and change there. There are a few direct daily busses going from Cuenca and Guayaquil to Banos. Busses go more frequently to Banos during holidays.
