We are seeking aspired photographers with a sense of adventure and interest in different cultures to contribute photos to our newspaper and website. We offer you hands-on experience and the opportunity to become published in a professional national newspaper.

Whilst you are developing your skills as a photographer, you will have the opportunity to learn more about Ecuador and its amazing culture. As part of the internship you will learn the Spanish language and immerge in the Latin American way of life.

OVERVIEW

Moving Ecuador is publishing a monthly paper in English which is complemented by the website. There is currently no English media of note in Ecuador and is otherwise badly covered by the Western media, which explains why so few people are familiar with the culture. We are launching both a newspaper and website in an attempt to have a regular flow of contemporary news from Ecuador.

WHY ECUADOR?

The country of Ecuador is a perfect place to begin any travel writing career. As a microcosm of South America it includes the natural areas of south America: the rainforest, Andes and coast giving any writer a plethora of material to write about. Moving Ecuador has already established contacts in the deepest depths of the country where no other traveler has been, and it will be your job to travel to these places and write about them.

There are eight different races of people too, which guarantees fascinating interviews from radically different people but from the same country.

THE PAPER

The paper, will comprise of 24 pages to begin with all the regular subjects that you could expect to find in a western newspaper, including news, sports, food and even 'a destination of the month' page where a photographer can contribute. Photographers will be expected to work tohether with the journalist and compliment the stories with striking images. 

The paper is supported by the website, which means all your work will be documented on an online format as well as the paper itself. Photo's will be added to the online articles and the image gallery.

Our internship

1st Month

2 weeks of Spanish classes one on one + shooting photo's in Quito, including an introduction to the capital and country.

1 week of travelling and writing about one of our responsible travel destinations. You will be given further information on your destination once here.

1 week in the office. Take photo's that will be used as part of restaurant reviews, events and other local activities. After this you will have an evaluation with the directors to discuss your progress.

2nd Month

Continue with Spanish classes if necessary during the morning

Work from the office and in the field and support the journalists which will include further travel.  

Research for the Moving Ecuador newspaper and website including pitching ideas to the editor, which can then be executed by yourself or followed up by someone else at a later date.

After 2nd Month

We offer internships of over two months should you wish to continue working on the paper. After the second month, other opportunities will present itself including taking shots for the two page photo feature in the newspaper. You will also act as a mentor to others once you know the country and culture.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Most internships offer little in the way of experience, but this internship is a unique chance to work as a photographer in a professional environment. Unlike most interns, you will be expected to be a part of the team, which includes applying your skill and experience gained from placements and university. Remember, you are not dealing with a state or province but an entire country.
