Las Tunas photo Las Tunas is the place to go for the combination of catching waves and relaxing in a nice little town. The deserted white sandy beach stretches out for several kilometers. You only have to share it with the local fishermen and very few tourists.

It is amazing to see that Las Tunas is only half hour away from the bustling tourism town Puerto Lopez, but there are no tourists to be found. Las Tunas is the ideal place for people trying to get away from things and immerge in the tranquil life that this little commuity has to offer.

The main attraction to Las Tunas is the beach and the amazing surfing waves, all year round. This makes Las Tunas a great alternative for the popular surfspots Montanita and Canoa.

Las Tunas has a lot more to offer than just surfing and a great beach. The nearby towns of Puerto Rico and Ayampe make great destinations for a nice walk on the beach.

The local people can also organise tours to inland destinations. The dry forest is one of the most fascinating areas in the country. You can go here for a hike or go horseback riding. Just ask in the local restaurants for more information.

There are also tours offered to the nearby mangrove forests near the Ayampe river. Mangroves are being threatened with distinction in this area.

Places to stay and eat

The little town of Las Tunas has two local restaurants where you can get the best fish of the Manabi coast. The fresh catch from the early morning can be on your plate for lunch. And that's basically all that the restaurants have to offer in Las Tunas. It is a great local dish, either fish or shrimps or whatever dropped in the fishingnet that morning.

On request you can join one of the local families for a nice meal.

There is local accommodation offered right on the beach. For only $5,00 USD per person you can have your own oceanview room. For people staying for a longer time, homestays are offered. Just ask at the restaurants for more information.
