About Ecuador

Ecuador is a country which has everything and all within travelling radius. You can start a bus journey from the west coast on the Pacific Ocean and end up in the jungle on the same day.

The country has plenty to offer in the form of stories, interviews and pictures and is an excellent place for any young aspiring travel journalist to gain experience of the Latin American way of life.

The Andes placed capital Quito in itself shows the incredible contrast of wealth and poverty that exists only several kilometres from each other. You can watch blocks of flats being built, which will one day house the Ecuadorian bourgeois classes, and then walk across the street where people work for $1 an hour every day living in dyer poverty.

Other famous areas of Ecuador include beach towns, but many are unknown and undiscovered due to the lack of coverage these places get in the guide books. Moving Ecuador has already established contacts in these places, where journalists will be expected to go and write about the importance of responsible travel by describing the place, where you can stay and what there is to do.

Ecuador too has thousands of volunteer projects, again which many people are unfamiliar with, instead paying huge amounts to huge companies when organisations that are already established here go without.

Over the next few months, the jungle will open up once the main access road is improved and updated and as a newspaper, we need detailed coverage on this so tourists can travel there safe in the knowledge that a Moving Ecuador journalist has been there before.

Ecuador is also going through a state of political change, from right to left and only last April 2007, the people of Ecuador voted in unison to sack the Congress and elect a new national assembly to push new left wing legislation through. You will find that everyone you meet wants to talk to you about this and with a passion too.

The country boasts eight different races, all from different origins, and all living next door to each other. There is of course tension between some of these groups in the way you rarely see races mixing but each race provide you with a different insight into the life of an Ecuadorian and the South American way.

There are off course different languages here to contend with. The majority, however are competent in Spanish which limits the language learning skills just to one.

Ecuador is a country waiting to be discovered by millions, who only need a guide to show them the way.
