A trip to the waterfalls is a great way to enjoy the beautiful nature, without going to far off the beaten track. Just take an hour walk through the countryside from Otavalo to get there. During the weekend the park around the waterfalls is usually filled with tourists, but if you go there on a weekday you may have the place all to yourself. If you're not into waterfalls Peguche is still a nice place to check out if you have a few hours to kill while you are in Otavalo. The weavings being sold in Otavalo come (part of it) from Peguche. Eventhough there aren't a lot of workshops open for visitors, it's still worth asking around.
Places to stay and eatAccommodation Peguche is a tiny place. There are three places to stay in and close to Peguche. Their prices range from mid range to high range. Most people choose to stay in nearby Otavalo. Places to eat There are a few small places to fill your stomache nearby the entrance to the waterfall. Only local dishes will be served here.
How to get therePeguche is an hour walk away from Otavalo through the countryside. If you prefer to take a bus, you can catch one at the busterminal in Otavalo. Some busses leaving for Agato pass through Peguche. Make sure to ask if they do before getting on the bus. Busses from Otavalo will get you in Peguche in about 15 to 20 minutes.
