Salinas
Salinas is the fairtrade capital of Ecuador. The small community, just north of Guaranda, has been working on responsible tourism and various other fairtrade products for over 30 years.
Several universities, national and international have visited the little town to learn from its succes and be a part of the great experience that the people of Salinas offer their visitors.
The beautiful location of the community makes Salinas an ideal place to visit for all sorts of visitors. Whether you are interested in fairtrade, hiking, adventure sports or culture, Salinas has something in store for you.
Salinas offers an abundance of activities for everybody.
The community is very well prepared to receive tourists and offers them a great time in the mountains.
In the community itself, you can visit the small archeological museum, showing artifacts found in the surrounding area. You can also take a tour to some of the small local factories and see how their products are being made. Some of the products you can find here are:

If you prefer to leave the town and go out into nature, the local guides will gladly take you there. Trips can be organised to climb the Chimborazo volcano, go sportfishing or go on hikes to other communities in the countryside.

Places to eat in Salinas
There are just a few places to stay in Salinas. The best place in town is run by the local youthgroup and offers basic accommodation in dorm rooms and single/ double rooms. They also serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Other places in town to get some food can be found on the little plaza. There is a little hamburger place and a basic restaurant.

From Quito take a bus to Guaranda (get there through Ambato) which leave the Quito main bus terminal regularly. From Guaranda take a bus to Salinas.
Buses from Guaranda leave several times a day for Salinas.
